Its main purpose is to test your computer's tendency to run games and high detailed graphical videos. Futurenark (the creators of 3DMark) seems to have programmed quite much of the 2005 verion of 3Dmark (a.k.a. 3DMark05). They have even let out a screenshot of a demo, that will be used to test the graphic card and the rest of the computer of course. From the picture it seems that even the newest and best graphic cards in the market will work their arses off to manage to run the demo. The old graphic cards have no chance to run the demo at all.
